• Does Xandadeck support video walls?

Yes, we do! You can set up ANY kind of video wall by using 1 Xandabox per screen, 1 Master Player with the actual content, and 1 Video IP streaming device!

  • Does Xandadeck support monitors of all sizes?

Xandadeck software supports any resolution, thus any monitor size. From 640×480, VGA monitors, up to the latest 4K TVs, all monitors will work fine. It is best to choose a widescreen monitor with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (like “HD Ready”, “Full HD” or “4K” monitors and TV sets) since most content out there is made for this aspect ratio.

Our Xandabox (and Raspberry Pi in general) should also work fine with 99% of all monitors and TVs out there, so no worries! In case you have a problem with a specific monitor and need help, reach out and we will help.

  • Why do you download everything locally?

Internet access is not smooth everywhere. We could stream content, but that would mean that your Internet connection must be stable. The same goes for your WiFi network. If anything between your monitor and our server is a bit slow, it would not work properly.

That is why everything is downloaded locally on the SD card and played from there.

  • How much bandwidth does Xandadeck use?

Xandadeck requires a substantial amount of bandwidth. Really. Make sure you use the Xandadeck service over a non-metered/unlimited Internet access. Same thing applies for the Xandaboxs. Huge video files may be transferred through the Internet and constant communication of the players with the service may skyrocket your bill.

Important: If you are on a metered/limited Internet connection (e.g. mobile carrier, or per-traffic / per-hour access), please contact us to ensure that you can use our service over those Internet connections.

  • How many items can be displayed on a single monitor at the same time?

You can display any number of image slideshows, webpages and widgets at the same time.

If the widgets you use require a lot of processing and the hardware is not up to it, you might notice some sluggish animations depending on the type and content of the webpages and widgets.

Important: you can display only one playlist containing videos at any given time. This is a restriction imposed by the Xandabox (Raspberry Pi) hardware, which cannot playback more than one video simultaneously. In most cases, you should not need it.

  • What types of documents does Xandadeck support?

The following document formats are supported by Xandadeck:

    • Microsoft PowerPoint PPT and PPTX files (we already support importing them as Videos)
    • Microsoft Word DOC and DOCX files
    • Microsoft Excel XLS and XLSX files

These documents are automagically converted to PDF and displayed as slideshows.

We also support audio files as well!

  • What types of videos does Xandadeck support?

Xandadeck supports a wide variety of video formats.

Videos that you upload on Xandadeck are automagically converted to industry-standard formats (H.264 with AAC audio) with high quality settings. This way, Xandadeck can provide a high-definition viewing, with the smoothest playback possible.

  • What types of images does Xandadeck support?

Any types of images that can be displayed in a modern browser, including JPEG, PNG and GIF (incl. animations). Images are resized upon display, so no preprocessing is required or performed.

Note that large or heavy animated GIFs may not be played back smoothly.

  • How reliable is Xandadeck?

Very. Even if our servers running the Xandadeck service go down, your monitors will continue to work for up to a whole month with the schedule you have already provided.

Note though that Xandadeck is not a file storage service. You should always keep copies of the content you create outside of Xandadeck. Always.

  • How secure is Xandadeck?

Very. We designed Xandadeck from the ground up with security in mind. Some key points:

    • The Xandadeck service is accessed over SSL, so access codes and other sensitive information is always encrypted and secured.
    • We use the Stripe payment gateway service, so no credit card info is stored in our service. Stripe is as safe as PayPal, so no need to worry about that.
    • Xandabox software is always firewalled, even within your network.
    • Schedules and configuration data downloaded from the Xandadeck service to your Xandaboxs is digitally signed, so no one can trick your monitors into playing something different.

In a few words, nobody will ever be able to mess with your monitors.
